Hot Wedding Shoes

Tessy Rocour via Mollie Ahn on Pinterest?

Are you a bride who just can't wear heels?  Oh how I know the feeling! I love the look of high heels but am just too uh...old to handle the extreme heights! So what is a girl to do? Get creative. Pinterest creative that is.

I found a pin on Pinterest that soles the age old bridal problem of high heels or low heels, style versus comfort!

Why not try stenciling this silhouette of a high heel pump on the side of a pair of white high tops? Genius! Creative and comfortable! What more could a girl ask for? Or her mother for that matter? Getting the silhouette just right is a little tricky at first but once you get it down you're in great shape!  And just think how fashionable you'll look when you head out jogging in these after the wedding!

Hair Colors for Weddings

As a mother of the bride I don't have a lot of comments about who is wearing what at the wedding as they all walk down the aisle. I am just hoping none of her bridesmaids (or his groomsmen for that matter) decide to wear this particular color combination in their hair on the day of the wedding.

Is that asking too much? I know I'm old, and when I see this and shudder I know I'm really old.  But hey, I really would prefer not to have grandmother's or grandfather's having coronaries when the bridal party walks down the aisle!

I don't care if they want to have rainbow color dresses (well I guess I care if the groomsmen are wearing them, yeah I'm liberal but not that liberal I guess, at least for the wedding.) But I'm really hoping...

Braiding For A Flower Girl's Hair

Let your flower girl have hair that shines on your wedding day. While this braid isn't something I'd want to try to execute myself, a hairdresser skilled at braiding should have no trouble at all braiding her hair and securing it. It's almost like having a flower in her hair! How pretty!

No more fake looking updos that look ridiculous on little girls anyway, this look is one she'll be begging for (her mom is going to love for this! LOL). Looking for a tutorial? Here's one from YouTube, I'm sure there are others onlne, just google "how to do a flower braid"

Flower Girls Inspiration Board

Inspiration Board for flower girls from Marilyn Keepsakes Blog Photos all found on Etsy.com via (from top to bottom, left to right) YourSparkleBox, sharpsissors, sharpsissors, YummyPhotoProps (inset), BellaBeanCouture, YummyPhotoProps, MeadowLion1120 and OliviaKateCouture

Do you want your flower girl to steal the show at your wedding? Do you care? If you care, beware some of these very 'outre' looks for your flower girls. While the tiny hats are cute, and the wings are adorable (if a little bit more Halloween than wedding) they will grab all the attention for the flower girl at your wedding.

Plan the look you want for your flower girl and decide if your ego can take all your guests fondest memories of  your wedding the look of your flower girl, not the bride and groom. There is no right way, just the right way for YOU.

Like actors who say 'never work with dogs or kids' many brides feel the same way. Decide how you feel and go with it!

If you decide to go for the 'wild child' flower girl one of the best places to shop (when it's not Halloween season) is Etsy.com.  At any given time Etsy has nearly 40,000 tutus for little girls in stock, so head over and find your favorite look. Looking to add wings or hats, just run an Etsy search and you'll find a supply of those as well. Don't be afraid to ask a vendor about custom colors, most Etsy artisans are happy to work with you.

Golden Wheat Bouquets at Rustic Weddings

Never let it be said that Texans don't know how to do it right! These bouquets made of wheat and tied with a simple ribbon set this wedding off as unique and stylish a the same time!

Are you having a rustic wedding and think you could use something similar, visit the website The Sweetest Occasion. They have even more inspiring ideas that might be helpful as you plan your decor.

Monogram It!

Photo from Pinterest

Love this monogrammed veil! The perfect accent to the tulle without adding beads and glitz! Simple. Classic. And very personal. Of course it means you won't be able to lend your veil to your sister or best friend, but... some things you just have to give up for style!

I've seen this veil all over on Pinterest (Southern Mommas onto Southern Wedding Love), but can't find the original photo source. If anyone knows please let me know so I can give the photographer and site credit.

It's Too Hot To Work on Wedding Planning, So What To Do?

How hot was it today? Too hot to do any wedding planning! So what did I do? I headed for Mad Mex in Willow Grove! Dinner time was the time for some great Cal-Mex food! The heat in the food cooled me off, and if you head to Mad Mex you can also enjoy their Big Azz Margaritas or great craft beers for some additional cooling.

We lucked out, it was my husband's birthday and Mad Mex had sent him a coupon for a free burrito! Mad Mex doesn't just serve a burrito, no it serves a BIG AZZ Burrito! I've never seen a burrito that big in my life! (Our waitstaff, Tasha, very nicely boxed it up for him to bring home ) (I'm hoping he's not eating it for breakfast in the morning!)

Manager Dave greeted us and welcomed us to Mad Mex. I can't remember the last time I saw a manager who was so on top of everything happening in the restaurant. He was working hard to be sure all his guests had a great experience at Mad Mex. And everyone from the hostess to the waitstaff and bus persons were all working hard to get everyone their food and anything else that needed refilling (umm...like those Big Azz Margaritas or beers!)

I know it's going to be another hot again today and tomorrow, so if you are looking for a way to avoid cooking at home head to Mad Mex to cool off, locally in University City and Willow Grove.

Personally recommend the jumbo shrimp fajitas! Like the burrito, it was a huge serving! These certainly could feed you for more than one meal! By all means wrap half up and take it home! Ordering a side salad? Beware the cilantro lime dressing, it's super hot (at least to this New Jersey wimp!) I'll skip salad next time and just enjoy my entree.

So if you are looking for a fun destination for tomorrow where you can cool off and enjoy some great food, head to your local Mad Mex! And enjoy!

Olive Garden at Sam's Club

Planning a wedding shower but don't want to go the catered restaurant route? Head to Sam's Club and pick up some Olive Garden Salad Dressing! You don't have to go to the Olive Garden for their signature salads anymore, just toss up a salad in you own kitchen, serve some bread sticks and antipasto! Yum!

Oh and add a nice wine on the side! Guarantee you'll have happy guests who are as pleased with their cuisine than if you had gone to the Olive Garden and had it catered!

Some Sam's Clubs have Olive Garden cheese available as well! Talk about topping off a salad with gold for your taste buds!

Subtle and Tart Lemonade As Art

Lemonades can be turned into a work of art! Sometimes a simple pink lemonade, served in an old fashioned mason jar, complete with straws reminiscent of a soda bar from the fifties are the perfect thing to serve on a hot summer day. Add some vodka to the lemonade for a little extra kick!

Great for your rehearsal dinner, wedding reception, or post wedding festivities.

Is Your Husband Your Superhero?

Is your idea of a husband a superhero? Or does he think you're Wonder Woman? See this great photo above!

Everyone in the bridal party became a superhero! How cool is that?

While it may not thrill your mother or mother in law if you and your spouse to be are into comic books, super heroes etc. you have to head over to Bridal Musings and see the post on all things super hero, including the very last photo (which is my total favorite!)

Bridal Musings has everything from photos similar to the one above to ideas for place cards, wedding favors and more.

Are you looking for a superhero cape for your flower girl or ring bearer? Check the great capes made by Philadelphia area creative guru, Sherry Aikens, who makes great capes for kids. Shop for her capes at Baby Pop Designs and on Etsy.com.  Babypop has seen tremendous success, and has been featured on Good Morning America, Inc Magazine, Parenting, Fox TV, HGTV and Philadelphia Inquirer, and Martha Stewart. Sherry's capes and masks etc. are available in red, blue, black, green, and yellow capes with shield lighten bolt, crown and other symbols of your choice.  See photos of some of her creations here. The superhero mask are available in princess and lighten bolt mask. You can create the custom superhero costume cape and superhero tee for children or adults.

Is your husband to be a superhero? Hmmm... I guess we'll find out when he walks down the aisle!

You know your wedding day will be stressful for you, your bridesmaids, your mom etc! So why not make an easy breakfast snack for all of you?

How? Just grab a box of Hostess Mini Cupcakes, add a 'diamond' and serve some Mimosas, plain OJ, or some hot coffee! Yum!

Don't Forget--Click The Poll

Trying to make this blog more responsive to my readers wants and needs. If you are a reader and have an opinion, just click the category you're most interested in reading about, or leave a comment below. Thanks!

Why Brides Shop Online (And I Do Too!)

Why have I joined my bride readers in spending most of my shopping dollars by shopping in online stores? It saves us both time and money! Things we are all short on these days. Are you?

My brides are wedding planning plus holding down full time jobs, and balancirg relationships between their own families, a new family and their spouse to be!  I'm working a full time job and writing 20+ blogs, am a freelance writer, and have a direct sales job with my daughter, and am in charge of the care and feeding of a husband, so yes we are ALL busy.

We have each learned that shopping online is not only fast and easy, it is saving us $$! A lot of dollars! Something that always puts a smile on our faces! And a smiling woman means whole families are smiling!

But one of the often overlooked ways to save yet MORE money online is by using promotion codes. Sometimes a business you follow or have previously purchased from will send you codes in your email. But if you are buying from a new business or one you have not previously purchased from, then head over to Promotion Code. Promotioncode.org not only lists promotion codes but it has a page where you can SIGN UP to have them emailed to you (just so you don't miss a great buy or in this case a great web page?)

So whether you're a bride buying her trousseau, a busy editor juggling one too many blogs, or just a busy mom who wants to save money when she shops, Promotion Code's web site will help you save as many $$ as possible.

Think how much gas money you save by shopping from your keyboard or cell phone with the high prices for gas today! And I love being able to comparison shop online before I push that button to charge my Visa or Paypal account!

If you are already (yes ALREADY thinking about your holiday shopping, be sure to sign up for your favorite stores at PromotionCode.org so you get all the most up to date codes (and so you can share some you find with your online friends.) And so you can say in September, "I'm finished my holiday shopping and saved 50% over last year!" Wouldn't that be great?  Just think, you'll have all those months to really enjoy you holidays this year. No more worrying over budgets. No more rush at the last minute. You'll have everything wrapped by October! All thanks to Promotioncode.org and their help with saving you money by shopping online! So whether you are wedding shopping or holiday shopping, heat to PromotionCode.org and get started now!

Lacy Look For Weddings Isn't Expensive!

Baby's Breath? Use it as a 'breathtaking' centerpiece! Seen here in Style Me Pretty, these huge tall vases filled with these delicate white flowers will 'take your breath away!' OK, so I couldn't resist that...

You can also make bouquets using baby's breath. This flower is so delicate and wispy that it easily lends itself to delicate and lacy wedding looks.

The question is not can you make these simple bouquets or centerpieces, the question is do you WANT to be doing that the night before your wedding or on the morning of your wedding. Personally it would not be my choice (I'd rather pull an extra part time job to pay the florist). But that's me. Some people to do not have my 'black thumb of death' when it comes to flowers, and face it, I'd rather kick back and relax if I get a few extra minutes than be worrying about flowers.  DIY or not to DIY? This is a question  only you can answer.

Why You Need Dollar Store DIY Projects

Dollar Sign From My Lot

I've been hooked on Dollar Store projects lately! I know, I know, the Dollar Store (and others like it) are hazardous to your finances. You go in to get one thing (and to spend under five dollars) and all of a sudden you leave with a cart load of stuff you really don't.  (And you thought you were going to SAVE money?)

This is just why it's necessary to have some DIY Dollar Store Projects. Whether the projects are for your wedding, your home, or to use as gifts, the Dollar Store is almost better than your local craft store as a place to pick up crafting supplies!

Now the unfortunate thing is I have had years to accumulate 'stuff' from the Dollar Store, so not only will you get hit with great new projects (from my newest finds) but you'll find some that I've finally managed to use that I purchased years ago! It was you or the garage sale, and garage sales are SO much WORK!

So look for lots of new Dollar Store projects, on all my blogs.  Just in case you are like me and have been hoarding 'finds' from the Dollar Store for years and need to clear out the closet share your favorite Dollar Star projects with readers too! Comments always welcome!

New Poll!

Hi readers! Once again I have a short poll for you to complete. None of those things that take half an hour to finish, nope! This is just a click and you're done (well you have to make up your mind, if that takes you half an hour, leave it and come back later!)

I'm trying to gauge what my readers like to read about the most. So if you want a hand in deciding the future blog posts (or at least some of them) Vote, Vote, Vote! You know what they say, if you don't vote you don't get to complain! Thanks!

Be A Bride With Braces!

Logo from invisalign.com

OK, you put it off for years, your teeth weren't THAT bad. Braces or college? OK, college, easy choice. College doesn't hurt, (well other than paying for it) and you don't look like a geek! But having finished college and finally gotten a job (and an engagement ring), NOW you both want and need the braces.

Yes, I should have done it sooner. I could have borrowed money for college (or for braces for that matter) but now I'm about to walk down the aisle and I need braces. What to do?

The perfect answer is Invisalign. No not just those clear braces that were all the vogue ten years ago, Invisalign aligners are constructed more like trays for teeth whitening. And Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible. That's right, Invisible!

So if you are a bride (or groom for that matter) worried about how straight your pearly whites will look on your wedding day, head to your Invisalign specialist. Not all orthodontists are trained in Invisalign, so be sure to check for certifications.

Invisalign aligners are removable. While for best results you should wear them 20-22 hours per day, if you remove them for your wedding ceremony or wedding photos your teeth won't go out of alignment. (Check with your Invisalign specialist.)

What's it like to wear Invisalign braces? Invisalign has not metal brackets or nasty wires to cut up your mouth. In fact, if you get his and her Invisaligns no worry about the embarrassment of hooking your braces together with each kiss. Also since time is at a premium while you are wedding planning, you'll be glad to know that the Invisalign patient usually spends less time at the orthodontist than with 'typical' braces.

Invisalign allows you to view your virtual results and treatment plan before you start so you can see how your straightened teeth will look when your treatment is complete. So if you start your Invisalign treatment, and expect it to be near complete at the time of your wedding, you'll have a good idea just what your smile will look like. See the results for yourself! Isn't technology grand?

OK, they look good, feel good, are easy to wear, have shorter orthodontist appointments, and you can see the virtual result before you start, there must be negatives right?  The only negative I could find is that like any braces these are going to cost you. Like any medical procedure or treatment, only your doctor can determine the costs based on your needs, treatment goals, how long you are in treatment, the difficulty of your case, where you live, insurance coverage and other factors.

The average cost in the United States is between $3,500 to $8,000, with a national average of approximately $5,000. There are special payment plans available as well as credit plans if you don't have the week to week payments in hand.

So if you're getting married and want your teeth to shine and look as beautiful as you do, go to the local Invisalign office and have them evaluate your case, the sooner you start, the sooner you are finished. Just think, one part of wedding planning that is covered by insurance!

All information for the Invisalign Web Site.

Ten Ways To De-Stress On Your Wedding Day

Wedding Day Weekly's Top Ten Tips For Brides
How to De-Stress On Your Wedding Day

Wedding Days. Stressful? Who knew? Of course we all know that your wedding day will have plenty of stressors so WDW made this handy dandy list of way to de-stress your wedding day so you can have a calm and happy wedding day! Ah! Feeling better already aren't you? Just having a list helps you de-stress!
  1. Go to your rehearsal the night before and don't be afraid to ask questions if you have a concern about what's happening, when, or where. Remember, your teachers always told you there are no stupid questions? That's definitely true at your rehearsal. Then enjoy your rehearsal dinner but don't get trashed. A headache and hangover are not how you want to experience your wedding day.
  2. Having worries before you go to bed? Just make a list and put it beside your bed. That way your brain can relax and let you get a good rest, knowing the list will be there in the morning. Other suggestions? Add worries to a "worry jar" and let the jar spend the night worrying (it doesn't have to look pretty for pictures tomorrow!)
  3. Allow yourself plenty of time to get ready in the morning. In fact, give yourself time for a calming cup of tea before your day starts. Some alone time to regroup for the day ahead. And eat breakfast! You don't have to pig out but you'll feel better if you eat something. And you won't have a headache from not eating later (or end up drunk on that first glass of champagne!)
  4. In you can't invest in a day of coordinator, then plan who is going to be the designated 'errand person' the morning of your wedding. There will be dozens of last minute details that someone needs to handle. Having a designated 'runner' will let everyone relax, they'll know who to contact if something is off kilter.
  5. Being organized ahead of time will let the people helping you work efficiently. Have floor plans on where to put everything from place cards, the guest book, your gift table, wedding favors and cake table. A sample table design photo would be helpful as well. This way people don't have to constantly ask you questions while you are in the middle of getting ready. You can, dare I say it, relax?
  6. If you can't encourage guests to ship gifts ahead of time, you'll have a gift table to deal with.  Designate a good friend or family member to take charge of the wedding gifts. And have your gift table in a safe area where no one can just walk in the door and waltz off with your wedding gifts! Unfortunately there have been occasions lately when wedding gifts have been stolen right from the reception. If you have someone keeping watch then you don't have to worry about it. They'll also be in charge of getting the gifts to either your home or your parents' home after the wedding.
  7. Wear comfortable shoes for your reception! If you must wear those $700 shoes to walk down the aisle but they pinch your toes and kill your back, bring a pair of lower heels or ballet flats to your reception. Some brides even opt for flip flops.  Oh, and break in your shoes before the wedding! Scuff up the bottoms (so you don't go sliding down the aisle) and get used to walking gracefully in the heels.
  8. Put someone in charge of clothing. Both of your going away outfit and of bringing home your wedding gown. And most important, do not forget to bring shoes for your going away outfit. Why do I say that? I admit, I forgot at my wedding! It was not my best fashion statement as I left my wedding! So choose someone, your maid of honor or favorite cousin or aunt are good choices.
  9. Have an emergency kit. Spare hose, clear nail polish, makeup for touch ups, a needle and thread and safety pins, some Shout wipes for stains, and a spare tuxedo shirt. There is nothing worse than wedding photos where the groom had some of that great buffet and got a huge spot of sauce on his tuxedo shirt! The extra tuxedo shirt is one of my favorite emergency tips!
  10. Remember, this is YOUR wedding day. Don't be a diva but this is one day when you are permitted to let someone else field the problems and handle things like tips for the vendors. Your job is to look beautiful and smile! Let someone else deal with the details today. You can return the favor for them another time.
So de-stress your day and enjoy it! You want to see photos of a smiling bride not a harried and worried one. Relax, enjoy, oh yes, and something WILL go wrong, expect it and laugh it off. It may end up being one of the most memorable parts of your wedding years later. A sense of humor is a bride's greatest asset!

Tulle Tied Wedding Shoes

Source: bhldn.com via Kristi on Pinterest

Tulle tied wedding shoes? Oh yes! Yes, I admit, I am in love with SHOES! Heels, flats, boots, sandals it just doesn't matter, any kind will make me happy! But I admit to having a weakness for pretty shoes.

Yes I love the comfort of my Keens (the world's most comfortable shoes (and sandals) but these pretty white shoes above are just perfect for the bride! What wedding doesn't need yards of tulle? And these shoes add to the tulle yardage!

As one reviewer said " The tulle wrap around the ankles is very unique and reminds me of pointe shoes" and she's so right!

If you've been searching for the perfect shoe for your wedding (even if you do need to add some comfort padding on the inside due to the heel height) this pair of Auroral Vapor Heels are a great option. (But if you need some comfortable walk-around sandals for your honeymoon, try the Keens!)

This cake gives new meaning to the words "tie the knot." It is a pretty multi-layer wedding cake is perfect for the bride who is looking for "something blue." Pretty blue bows on each level show the commitment of the bride and groom.

Charming knots decorate each layer, building layer on layer, strength on strength. This cake is simple but amazing.
